NOVEMBER 25, 2019
Buriram Province, Thailand – November 23, 2019 – The 6th Round of the Thailand Talent Cup (TTC) last November 16 to 17 was a triumphant race for Troy Alberto, the only Filipino rider representing the country, who clutched back-to-back podium finishes in the first and second race held recently at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand.
The 18-year-old Filipino rider found the race tough as he started a bit slower. Alberto said his physique, as he stands taller and heavier than the others, he found it hard to get a good start and make up a few positions on the first laps.
“One of the main obstacles I faced during the race was the top speed disadvantage I experienced on the long straights. A lot of the riders in the front group were quite small in size, with some weighing ten to fifteen kilos lighter than me. I really tried my best to ride my own rhythm as I felt I was overall much faster around the whole lap, but I struggled to defend on the straights.”
Despite the struggle, Alberto inched his way to the 2nd spot during the first race, lagging just seconds behind the lead rider.
In the second race, Alberto still had the strength left to finish strong as he focused more on riding faster through the corners, helping him to end the race in the 3rd place.
“I am so happy with the team’s work during the TTC Round 6. I felt really strong and competitive through all the sessions and, I can’t wait for the last round,” said Alberto.
Alberto is now gearing for the final round set on November 30 to December 1. With the results he achieved in the 6th round, this former Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup rider continues to prove that he got what it takes to be in the podium finish and shows that Filipinos have great potential to vie in an international competition.
Troy Alberto is part of HPI’s Racing Team, which has been participating in international racing competitions. This is in line with Honda’s ONE DREAM campaign, which aims to make Honda Motorcycles serve as tools in achieving one’s dream.
